What should I wear and bring to class at BlueSky Yoga Center?
Please wear comfortable clothes that stretch and move with
you. We recommend footless leggings or bike shorts and a tee
shirt or sports top. Yoga classes are done in bare feet. Tai
Chi classes can be done barefoot or with a soft shoe, like
a ked.
Please bring an open mind, an empty stomach, a water bottle
and a yoga mat or exercise mat. For sanitary and safety reasons,
we require the use of a yoga mat during yoga classes. We sell
yoga mats at competitive prices and we have a limited number
available for students to use.
When participating in a class, it is advised not to eat a

What is Yoga?
Hatha Yoga is an integrated system of fitness for Body, Mind
and Spirit. Hatha Yoga techniques focus on understanding and
improving the body, breath and mind through exercises, breathing
techniques and relaxation. From its ancient origins in India,
today's Yoga has evolved as a means of fitness and personal
growth. Yoga, meaning union, seeks to unite and restore balance
to the entire being. The physical, mental and spiritual dimensions
of well-being share equal emphasis in this holistic approach
to Wellness.
Anyone, at any fitness level and with a wide range of personal
and fitness goals, can benefit from beginning a Yoga practice.
Yoga postures, called asanas, are combined with breathing
techniques to help quiet the mind and bring focus to the practice.
What is Tai Chi?
At BlueSky Yoga Center, we offer Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan.
Tai Chi has been a tradition of fitness and health for hundreds
of years. Often referred to as 'moving meditation', Tai Chi
offers graceful movements, slow tempo and fluid forms. With
its ability to improve strength and flexibility, restore coordination
and balance, and reduce stress, Tai Chi is a wonderful way
to become more focused and maintain good overall health. Tai
Chi has been proven to raise T-cell (cancer-fighting cell)
count in the human body, as well as relieving the effects
of arthritis. It is used throughout Asia to combat cancer
and other forms of illness. Because Tai Chi exercises assist
the body in activating the 'soothing hormones' of the parasympathetic
nervous system and in calming the mind, it is recommended
by many doctors and health care practitioners as a effective
form of physical therapy. Tai Chi is practiced by men and
women of all ages and fitness levels. By emphasizing breathing,
balance, focus and movement, Tai Chi helps harmonize Chi/Life
Force Energy within the body, thereby enhancing wellness.
What are the benefits of Yoga and Tai Chi?

What should I focus on during class?
Yoga is a process, not a competition. The most important thing
to remember during your Yoga or other mind/body movement classes
is that practicing is an exploration. Go slowly and listen
to your body. Learn to determine if you are pushing yourself
too hard or lightly challenging yourself to try a little more.
Most importantly, remember to breath. Focusing on the breath
helps us move with awareness, prevent injuries and go deeper
into our practice. Being fully present to the moment is what
Yoga and Tai Chi are all about. We focus on what we are doing
and how we feel.
Will Yoga and Tai Chi help me get into shape?
Yoga and Tai Chi can make you feel better, regardless of your
weight, metabolism or body shape. You will burn calories,
strengthen and tone muscles, excrete toxins and improve your
posture. You will also become more aware of conscious choices,
including your choices in food and drink.
How many times a week should I come to classes at BlueSky
Yoga Center?
Most classes at BlueSky Yoga Center last 60-90 minutes. We
recommend that you focus that amount of time daily. However,
if you don't have that amount of time, try to practice a few
days a week on your own, including a class or two, and fill
in with shorter sessions on days when you don't have as much
time. The only ''bad'' mind/body exercise is one that you
didn't do, so any amount of time is better than none at all!
20-30 minutes a day is better than a 90- minute class once
a week. Find a teacher that you feel comfortable with. Books,
videos and websites can be great fill-ins, but nothing compares
to a group practice with a live instructor.
Can I schedule a private session with a BlueSky instructor?
