Frequently Asked Questions about massage

What is Therapeutic Massage?
Therapeutic massage is a hands-on therapy that uses skillful and focused touch by the therapist for the purpose of healing and relaxation. The therapist may employ specialized healing techniques such as neuromuscular, trigger point, cranial/structural, Reiki and deep tissue therapies or traditional massage techniques such as stroking and kneading.

Why choose massage therapy for healing?
Massage therapy is a natural therapy that has numerous positive effects and benefits from stress relief and injury healing, to rejuvenation and prevention. It is one of the oldest and effective therapies known to man. Massage stimulates many body systems to optimize function and normalize body tissues. It is also very effective at reducing anxiety and generating feelings of well-being. Many people choose massage therapy as an aid to their regular health maintenance.

What is my part as a client?
As a client, in order to receive optimum benefit from your treatment, you should remain relaxed and receptive. Your therapist does all the work.

What does a massage feel like?
Clients commonly experience physical pleasure during the treatment since therapeutic massage stimulates blood circulation, releases natural hormones called endorphins into your bloodstream and activates the parasympathetic nervous system. It is important to understand that sexual touch is never practiced or appropriate in this professional setting. However, healing touch communicates care and compassion.

Are sheets or towels used for my privacy?
Your comfort and privacy are of primary importance in the massage session. You will be draped appropriately at all times. The body part to be massaged is uncovered and then recovered during the session. Skillful tucking of sheets will prevent inadvertently exposing you improperly.

Am I expected to talk during a session?
Whether, and how much, talking occurs during a massage session depends on the purpose of the session and your particular needs. When relaxation is a primary goal, talking should be kept to a minimum. Silence allows you to sink further into a relaxed state. For muscular healing, it is encouraged that you give your therapist feedback if you would like to pinpoint the precise location of a trigger point in a muscle or if you prefer a deeper or lighter touch.

How long is a massage session?
A general wellness or healing massage session is one-hour long.

Other Healing Therapies with June Sitler, LMT

Cranial/Structural Therapy releases soft tissue restrictions of the normal cranial motion and promotes optimal structural alignment.

Cranial/Structural Therapy normalizes the relationship of one cranial bone to another, releasing restrictions of the soft tissue and underlying membranes, allowing for a remodeling and balancing of the craniosacral system. This process can lead to long-term pain relief and rehabilitation for those suffering from a pelvic or cranial distortion pattern. The freeing of soft tissue restrictions may also precipitate a freeing of corresponding emotions that facilitates healing on more subtle levels.

Cranial/Structual Therapy is most effective when integrated with deep tissue massage therapy to address intermediate shifts in soft tissue holding patterns or with Reiki Therapy to help promote emotional healing through stimulation of the meridian system.

Reiki Therapy is an ancient, holistic healing art that uses a technique of light touch to stimulate the active force in the body’s meridian channels.

As the subtle energy in the meridian system flows more freely, physical and emotional tensions spontaneously release. Following a treatment, the recipient typically experiences a sensation of emotional peace and heightened awareness, accompanied by renewed energy and clarity.
